The Architecture of the Parthenon

The Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens was built between 447 and 438 BC as a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena Parthenos. The word parthénos(παρθένος) meant ‘maiden, girl’ or ‘virgin, unmarried woman’.
